I recently got married and our bucket list for traveling is constantly expanding! I’m personally taking this crazy time to research destinations and plan future trips!

5 Money Saving Must Sees in London, England

Welcome to the Royal City of London! While I can’t guarantee that you will run into the queen herself, I can guarantee that these 5 steps will give you the royal experience. London can be expensive if you don’t navigate it correctly. Here are some tips to live like a Royal while on a budget.

  1. Buckingham Palace

Head straight to Buckingham Palace for your chance to see the royals. There is always something going on out front and you never know what or who you might see. The changing of the guards happens at 11:00am but get there an hour early so you can get a good view.

  1. Visit all the free museums

There is so much to see for free in the London Museums. These include: The Museum of London, the British History Museum, the Natural History Museum, The science Museum, The National Gallery and the Tate Modern!

  1. Oyster Card

Don’t waste your money on a taxi! Taxis in London traffic can add up super quick. Make a stop at the airport or any metro station and purchase an oyster card! This prepaid card will save you up to 50% of your metro rides. The Metro looks a little confusing at the first glance, but once you get on, it’s not hard at all! There is an even an app to download to better help you navigate the Metro and watch your prepaid balance.

  1. Snag a last-minute theatre ticket

Of course, you have to see a show while in London and I recommend one of the classics such as Wicked, Les Misérables, and Lion King, and Phantom of the Opera. Head to Leicester Square and find the TKTS booth. They sale tickets at half price on the day of the show and discounted tickets up to a week in advance.

  1. Camden Market

Spend the day walking around Camden Market. There is so much to explore in these several market areas. There are 6 markets and each one has a different feel. Camden Lock Village is the most famous, Camden Lock Market offers food from all over the globe, The stables market offers a vintage gothic feel, the Bucks Street Market is full of a clothing and jewelry, Camden High Street is full of shopping and pubs, the Buck Street Market also focuses on jewelry and clothing, and the Inverness Market has local fruit and vegetable markets. There is a lot to see so dedicate the whole day to people watching, buying a souvenir, then grabbing a drink and some street food and siting down for live music from all around the world.

Amsterdam

Amsterdam, the city of over 1500 bridges, more bicycles than you could ever count, and everlasting canals. This is one of the most famous and exciting cities in Europe and I’m about to tell you why.

The official language is Dutch, but almost everyone speaks English as their second language! So, no worries there.

The most important piece of advice you will need to successfully and safely navigate this wonderful city, is PEDESTRIANS YIELD TO BIKES! There is someone on a bike everywhere you look, and they will not stop for you. If you choose to rent a bike during your time in Amsterdam, which I highly recommend, then I also highly suggest you stay in your lane, peddle fast, use hand signals, and try to take in all the sights from your bike without getting looked at funny from a local! All jokes aside, it is the best and quickest way to get around Amsterdam.

Amsterdam

Must See Locations

Dam Square is located right in the heart of the town and although it is often covered in tourists, it is an Amsterdam essential so grab a coffee and join in on the people watching.

The next location is one that is not recommended for all ages and might be best for a Girls Night Out or maybe a date night. There are not many words to use to accurately describe The Red-Light District except for an EXPERIENCE! Here you get to see when a country legalizes prostitution and maybe even attend a show if you’re up to it!

For a more educational and somber experience, you must visit the Anne Frank House. This preserved piece of history is one that you will NEVER forget. You will get to climb the same stairs to the annex that the Frank family hid in for 761 days. There are original pages of Anne’s journal as well as rooms of items left behind. Although the museum sells tickets online up to 2 months ahead, they only save a certain amount that they release the day of so make sure to buy your tickets ahead of time!

And Finally, you can’t visit Amsterdam and not buy yourself a bouquet of the gorgeous tulips. To do this you will need to go to Bloemenmarkt. Bloemenmarkt is the only floating flower market in the world!! Treat yourself, you won’t regret it!
